HAFLONG: Hingmenkam, a place situated on the top of village Kipeilua, some 45 km from Mahur, has become the coldest place in Dima Hasao.

Hingmenkam near Kipeilua village is grassland area measuring one hectare and surrounded by virgin forest. This place has always witnessed such cold temperatures since the establishment of the village in 1934. The temperature comes down to 0 degree from 3.30 am to 5 am every day during the months from November to February. The water of the streams freezes but it gets melts after 7.30 am.

Kipeilua village is famous not only for the cold but also for its natural bridge and bee hives. The village gaonburah Gekaklung Nriame said that this was one of the oldest Jeme villages of Dima Hasao having 117 houses with 875 people. The prime means of livelihood is jhum cultivation and ginger, potato and honey production. Due to lack of communication, they had to suffer a lot but now as the road from Mahur –Hejaichak- Hangrum is being constructed, the people have heaved a sigh of relief.
