GUWAHATI: Altogether 1,83, 029 of 2,26,494 appeared candidates cleared the Higher Secondary (HS) Final Examination-2020 results of which were declared by the Assam Higher Secondary Council (AHSEC) on Thursday, taking the percentage of pass candidates to 80.80. These candidates belong to the Arts, Science, Commerce, and Vocational streams.

This year's results show several interesting trends. First, candidates of private educational institutions came out with better results compared to those in the government ones. Secondly, female candidates fared better than males in all the four streams. Third, Nagaon district topped in the overall ranking of candidates.

Altogether 44 candidates have been placed among the top 10 rank holders in Arts; 25 in Science; 23 others in the Commerce stream.

While there are 12 top three rank-holders in the Arts stream; there are three each in Science and Commerce.

In the Arts stream, the two toppers with 481 out of 500 total marks each are: Pubali Deka of Patharighat HS School, Darrang; and Shraddha Borgohain of Ramanujan Junior College, Nagaon. While Abinash Kalita (with 486 marks) from Anundoram Barooah Academy, Barpeta was the topper in the Science stream; Krishna Maheswari (with 471 marks) from Salt Brook Academy, Dibrugarh topped the list in the Commerce stream.

In the Arts stream, three candidates have been placed in the second position (with 477 marks each). They are Kashmiri Das of Barpeta Vidyapith HS School; Anwesha Kashyap of Golaghat Jatiya Mahavidyalaya; and Saima Kashmiri Das of Abdul Hasib HS School, Hojai. The following seven candidates have secured the third position (with 473 each) in the Arts stream: Jusmita Goswami of KK Handiqui Junior College, Barpeta; Farhanur Rahman of Bongaigaon HS School; Mayurika Deka of Ranjit Sarma Academy Junior College, Darrang; Sangita Das of Pragmatic Academy Junior College, Kamrup (R); Poli Borah of Concept Junior College, Nagaon; Priyakshi Bora of Ramanujan Junior College, Nagaon; and Moumita Konwar of RD Junior College, Tinsukia.

In the Science stream, while the second position (with 482 marks) has been bagged by Nayeema Firdous Borbhuyan from Concept Junior College, Nagaon; the third position (with 481 marks) has been secured by Preepal Bezbaruah from Sai Vikash Junior College, Kamrup (M).

In the Commerce stream, while the second position (with 468 marks) has been bagged by Harpreet Kaur of Sonari Junior College, Charaideo; the third position (with 466 marks) has been bagged by Binita Saha from Ramanuj Gupta Junior College, Cachar.

The percentage of candidates clearing the Arts stream (at 78.28%) this year is the highest since 2016 (at 79.92%). Similar is the case in the Science stream with 88.06% this year as compared to 2016 (at 90.96%). On the other hand, this year's pass percentage in the Commerce stream (at 88.18%) is the highest since 2011 (at 71.81%).

In the Arts stream, while 1,31, 794 candidates (of the 1,68,367 who had appeared) cleared the examination this year; 19,850 have been placed in the first division; 44,191 in the second division; and 67,753 in the third division. The top three district-wise pass percentage are as follows: Darrang: 89.07%; Sivasagar: 88.66%; and Morigaon: 86.51%.

In the Science stream, while 34, 847 candidates (of the 39,574 who had appeared) cleared the examination this year; 16,928 were placed in the first division; 14,747 in the second division; and 3,172 in the third division. The top three district-wise pass percentage are as follows: Sivasagar: 95.07%; Baksa: 95.54%; and Nalbari: 93.78%.

In the Commerce stream, while 15, 619 candidates (of the 17,713 who had appeared) cleared the examination this year; 3,870 were placed in the first division; 5,415 in the second division; and 6,334 in the third division. While Chirang, Majuli and West Karbi Anglong districts scored cent percentage pass results; Biswanath came second with 96.44%.

In the Vocational stream, while 769 candidates (of the 840 who had appeared) cleared the examination this year; 222 were placed in the first division; 529 in the second division; and 18 in the third division.
