Human Rights Day observed by DLSA in Kokrajhar jail

Kokrajhar: On the occasion of International Human Rights Day, a district-level programme was organized by District Legal Services Authority (DLSA), Kokrajhar inside the jail campus, Kokrajar on Tuesday.

In the meeting, the secretary of DLSA, Kokrajar, Bidyut Medhi launched a scheme named ‘Nabarun- A new light’ which aims at skill development of the jail inmates so that they can be smoothly rehabilitated after their release from jail. The secretary of DLSA explained that the scheme would be implemented by a district-level committee chaired by the District and Sessions Judge and Deputy Commissioner and others as members.

The meeting was chaired by Deputy Commissioner of Kokrajar, Partha Pratim Majumdar, who in his speech expressed the need to change the outlook of the society towards jail inmates. He emphasized that with proper technical education based on the capacity of an individual, a jail inmate could be best utilized as a human resource during and after release from jail. The meeting was attended by Director of Skill Development, Prabir Das, DPM, Aminul Haque Ahmed and other dignitaries.
