Illegal teak wood logs worth Rs 70,000 seized in Lanka, Police investigation on

Lanka: Based on a tip-off, a joint operation was launched by Assam police and Forest Department on Wednesday and seized a truck carrying logs of illegal teak wood at Lanka Town under Hojai District of Assam.

As per preliminary investigations, police suspected that the cost of the illegal teak woods would be around Rs 70,000.

Police also informed that the truck bearing registration number AS 02BC 6546 was coming from Phultoli and was heading towards Lanka town.

Following the operation, police later handed the truck along with the illegal teak wood logs to Forest Department.

It may be mentioned that taking the opportunity of the darkness, both the driver and the handyman managed to escape from the spot.

Police and Forest Department are continuing with the operation.
