Importance of green environment highlighted by Sonitpur district administration and organizations

Tezpur: In a move to raise the global awareness about the importance of the healthy and green environment in the human lives and mark the World Environment Day, Sonitpur district administration along with different organizations and nature loving individual, Pollution Control Board, Tezpur in association with a hotel organized different programmes including distribution of saplings of tree plant, cleanliness drive, rally etc under Swachh Bharat Mission.

On the other hand, a day long programme on World Environment Day with the theme of ‘Air Pollution’ was also organized by KVK, Sonitpur, Napam, at Napam Chapori village. The programme was started with an inaugural speech of Sanjukta Saikia, Subject Matter Specialist (Plant Protection), who welcomed the participants and aware the farmers about the importance of plants in minimizing air pollution and purification. Saikia also emphasised the role of farming community in mitigating the effects of climate change. A plantation programme of medicinal/fruit plant saplings was conducted in the surroundings of village temple of Napam Chapori village where 40 farmers and farm women actively participated.

The medicinal/fruit plant saplings were also distributed among the farmers. The plantation programme was also conducted in the office campus of KVK, Sonitpur. Angana Sarmah, SMS (Horticulture), Roji Chutia, SMS(Agronomy), Sarmistha Borgohain (PAC), Janardan Das, PA (Agri), Rajib Singh (FM), Uttam Jyoti Sarmah (OSA), Jitam Kasyap (JSCO), APART officials and other KVK staff were also present in the programme.
