International Labour Day observed by different organizations in Dhekiajuli

DHEKIAJULI: The International Labour Day was observed with the rest of the country in Dhekiajuli on Wednesday. To observe the day, Assam Chah Mazdoor Sangha (ACMS), Borsola Branch organized a day-long programme at the ACMS, Borsola campus. The ACMS flag was hoisted by Golap Das Panika, the president of ACMS Borsola Branch. Thereafter, a meeting was held which was presided over by Bhima Nanda Tanti, the secretary of ACMS, Borsola Branch. The meeting was attended by the tea garden workers of 32 tea estates under Borsola Branch.

Participating as a special guest, Ramesh Chandra Borah said that education among the tea tribe people was essential for the all-round development of the tea garden areas. Bhima Tanti, former deputy speaker and Mazdoor leader, said that the ACMS since its inception was tirelessly working for the development of the tea garden people. Tanti elaborately described the role played by ACMS in the last few decades.

The ACMS meeting was attended by Aniruddhya Tanti, ACMS Borsola Branch leader, Shib Charan Bug, assistant secretary, ACMS Borsola Branch, Kumi Gowala, Sagar Tanti, Tilak Tanti and other ACMS leaders.

International Labour Day was also observed at the Trimurty Auditorium, Dhekiajuli under the aegis of different labour unions and in cooperation with JCTU. A meeting was also held under the president ship of Chouhan Basphor, the celebration committee president.

BILASIPARA: Under the aegis of the May Day Celebration Committee, Bilasipara, International May Day was observed centrally at Nayahat under Bilasipara Civil subdivision with a day-long programme on Wednesday. In this connection, in the morning the red flag was hoisted by Kismat Ali, president of the Khoraghat Forest Workers’ Union, followed by floral tribute on the martyrs’ column by Ramen Das, secretary of AITUC, Asam State Committee. Thereafter a colourful procession was taken out from Nayahat wherein about 400 workers of different trade unions participated with their respective flags and traversed about 5 km on the national highway with police escort.

In the evening, a largely-attended public meeting was held at Nayahat Bazar with Khairul Islam in the chair. Dayal Paul, secretary of the celebration committee, explained the significance of May Day.
