International Youth Day Observed by Nedan Foundation in Kokrajhar

KOKRAJHAR: Along with the rest of the world, the International Youth Day was observed by Nedan Foundation, a Kokrajhar based NGO, more than a decade at Kokrajhar Science College auditorium hall. The day was also observed by United Youths’ Democratic Federation at Commerce College auditorium hall with various programmes. Students of as many as eight colleges - Kokrajhar Science College, Gossaigaon College, Janata College, Serfanguri, UN Brahma College, Dotma, Aronai College and Music and Fine Arts College, Kokrajhar, Saint Ann College and Commerce College participated.

The president of the Nedan Foundation, Digambar Narzary said the International Youth Day was celebrated on August 12 every year and was first designated by the UN General Assembly in 1999. It serves as an annual celebration of the role of young women and men as essential partners in change, and an opportunity to raise awareness of challenges and problems facing the world’s youth. The programme was held in the presence of ADC of Kokrajhar, Praffula Ch. Barman, Superintendent of Police of Kokrajhar, Rajen Singh and Commanding Officer of CISF, Hemanta Kr. Brahma. The programme started with the lighting of the lamp by the invited guest. Digamber Narzary, chairperson of Nedan Foundation, spoke about why youth participation was important in combating human trafficking. He also highlighted the present scenario of trafficking in the district, State as well as the country.

Praffula Ch. Barman, ADC of Kokrajhar, in his speech mentioned about youth participation in nation building. Hemanta Kr. Brahma, Commanding Officer of CISF, in his speech gave career counseling to the students about the SSC examination as well as competitive examinations. He clarified about the present recruitment system and scope of the job status. Rajen Singh, Kokrajhar Superintendent of Police, encouraged the youths to work hard to develop the nation.
