Joint Operation: Hardcore PDCK cadre apprehended in Karbi Anglong

Karbi Anglong: A hardcore cadre of the People’s Democratic Council of Karbi-Longri (PDCK), a fledgling militant group formed by former NDFB commander IK Songbijit, was nabbed in a joint operation by the police and army in Borlangfer area on Thursday.

The apprehended cadre identified as Welson Terang was formerly associated with the Karbi People's Liberation Tigers (KPLT). He was involved in extortion, kidnapping and other criminal activities. He was earlier arrested in 2013 and 2015.

Welson Terang alias Mongwe Terang of Bokaram Tokbigaon under Dolamara Police Station was arrested and .22 pistol with magazine and 6 live rounds of ammunition were recovered from his possession.

As per earlier records, after his release from jail, he again joined the PDCK which was trying to cash in the vacuum created due to the disintegration of the KPLT. The KPLT face a major setback after the Karbi-Rengma genocide as many of its cadres were either killed or surrendered due to the pressure generated by the security forces.

Welson along with PDCK’s C-in-C David Mukrang was actively engaged in extortion of money and recruiting new cadres in order to expand the militant outfit which was formed on October 27, 2016.

“On July 27, 2018, Welson along with his associates attacked a police party at Bokaram. After cessation of fire, during the search of the area, one HK 33 rifle, 70 rounds ammunition, two magazines of the rifle and other incriminating items were recovered from the site of encounter. The arrest of Welson is a big setback to the PDCK organization,” said Karbi Anglong, Superintendent of Police, Gaurav Upadhya to media.

It may also be mentioned that IK Songbijit has also remained concerned amongst the Bodo peoples after the BTAD massacre.
