Kamrup (M) District Administration Begins Preparedness For Ambubachi Mela

Guwahati: The Kamrup (M) District Administration has sent directives to various departments concerned as the preparedness for Ambubachi Mela has begun which will be held from June 22-26 at Kamakhya Temple, unlike the previous years.

Kamrup (M) Deputy Commissioner Biswajit Pegu had held a preparedness meeting for Ambubachi Mela on Friday at Circuit House, Guwahati with the departments of police, tourism, Guwahati Municipal Corporation, PWD, APDCL, Transport and Health & Family welfare to discuss the upcoming festival of Ambubachi to be held at Kamakhya Temple.

DC Pegu said that they have already held a preliminary meeting with the heads of all the departments to ensure the convenience of pilgrims. He said that a team of the district administration has also visited the temple premises today and inspected the routes through which the pilgrims will come and pay a visit to the main temple.

Pegu further stated that six camps will be set up for the visitors of the mela.

Pegu also emphasized on the cleanliness of the environment during the time of the festival as lakhs of pilgrims will visit the temple from June 22 till the last day of the Mela. The deputy commissioner also asked the concerned department of drinking water supply and electricity so that there is no interruption in the supply of drinking water and electricity. The DC also discussed about the traffic management rules during the festival and asked the traffic department to ensure the safety and security of the people.

Pegu said that in order to ensure safety and security of the people, CCTV cameras will be installed in large numbers and along with the Assam police jawans, volunteers in large numbers from different NGO’s will be appointed for smooth conduct of the Ambubachi Mela. “Additional numbers of SDRF and NDRF jawans will also be deployed during the festival. Temporary treatment facilities will also be available in the camps so that the pilgrims don’t get any kind of problem during their stay in the camps,” said Pegu.
