KOKRAJHAR: All arrangements have been made for the second phase of Bodoland Territorial Council (BTC) elections in 12 constituencies under Kokrajhar and 7 constituencies under Chirang district scheduled on December 10. Altogether 104 candidates are in fray for 19 seats in Kokrajhar and Chirang.

In Kokrajhar, a total of 10, 53,829 voters will decide the fate of 70 candidates in 506 polling stations. The administration has identified 151 polling stations as safe, 209 as comparatively safe, 357 as sensitive and 156 polling stations were identified as very sensitive.

Kokrajhar Deputy Commissioner Bhaskar Phukan said the district administration had made all necessary arrangements for smooth conduct of free and fair elections in 12 constituencies under Kokrajhar district. Adequate security arrangements have been made to ensure peaceful polling. Following the COVID-19 guidelines, the polling stations have been sanitized while masks and hand sanitizers will be kept in each polling station as per the COVID-19 guidelines.

In Chirang district, total 3,68,199 voters will decide the fate of 34 candidates in 7 constituencies. Total 88 polling stations have been identified as hyper sensitive.

The first phase election in 21 constituencies under Udalguri and Baksa districts went off peacefully on December 7 where overall 77.21 polling percentage was recorded. Altogether 241 candidates are in the poll fray across 40 constituencies for the council elections this time. The United People's Party Liberal (UPPL) is contesting in all 40 seats, the Bodoland People's Front (BPF), which is ruling the BTC since 2005, is contesting in 37 seats, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in 26 seats, Congress in 13, GanaSuraksha Party (GSP) in 35 while the AIUDF has fielded candidates in 7 constituencies.
