This has been once again proved by Paban Pegu, a student belonging to a poverty-stricken family of Dhakuakhana subdivision of Lakhimpur district.

The meritorious student has passed the HSLC exam conducted by SEBA, the result of which was declared on May 15, securing 88.16 overall percentage while overcoming the plights of poverty that he has been facing with since he was born. He scored 80 in Assamese, 92 in English, 97 in General Mathematics, 75 in General Science, 87 in Social Science and 98 in Advanced Mathematics with letter marks in five subjects. Thus, he brought laurels to his area and school, Sankardev Shishu Bidya Niketan, Natun Bajar, Majuli.

Paban is the son of Lila Kanta Pegu, a small, marginal farmer, and Prafullata Pegu, residents of Kathalguri village, Kekuri under the subdivision. He did not have a reading table to prepare for the exam nor does he have a suitable bed to sleep on.
