LAKHIMPUR: The Lakhimpur Medical College and Hospital (LMCH) is likely to be inaugurated by the end of the month of February, said State Finance, Health, Education and PWD Minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma in Lakhimpur.

Dr Sarma on Monday evening visited the Lakhimpur Medical College and Hospital which is under construction at present. Interacting with the media persons, the minister said that the construction work of the LMCH buldings was progressing rapidly.

"We have a two-month period to fulfil the norms of the National Medical Commission in order to inaugurate LMCH. I have asked the PWD officers to accelerate the rest of the construction works so that they can be completed within two months. The furniture provision cannot be added in LMCH right now as the site is still to be cleaned. The Principal has already joined and taken charge of his office. Similarly, the Superintendent, along with most faculties, has also joined. So, our target is to inaugurate LMCH on February 22 or end of the month of February," said the minister, while adding that the requisite number of doctors, professors and due staff of LMCH had already been appointed.

On Tuesday, Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma inaugurated the statue of Veerangana Sati Sadhani at Lakhimpur Bi-pass Tiniali at Charaimoriya near North Lakhimpur town. The statue of the valorous queen was constructed under the aegis of Lakhimpur district unit of All Chutia Students' Union. The meeting organized on this occasion was held under the management of Lakhimpur district unit All Chutia Students' Union president Jayanta Hazarika. Lakhimpur MP Pradan Baruah, Tezpur MP Pallab Lochan Das and Lakhimpur MLA Utpal Dutta took part in the programme.

On the other hand, Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarmah blew the poll bugle for the upcoming assembly election by participating in a large bicycle rally in Lakhimpur on the same day. Led by him, the bicycle rally was taken out from Dhalpur under Bihpuriya LAC and it concluded at Narayanpur via Rangati covering a 25 km-long road. Tezpur MP Pallab Lochan Das and Bihpuriya MLA Debananda Hazarika also took part in the rally along with thousands of BJP activists and members of Himanta Biswa Sarma Fan Club. During the rally, the local people accorded warm felicitation to the minister by showering flowers and gamosa at various places between Dhalpur and Narayanpur. A farmer presented him a sapling of the coconut tree. The minister offered his prayers at the historic Maghnowa Doul and the namghars located by the side of the road while proceeding towards Narayanpur.
