LGBRIMH, Tezpur Organized World Mental Health Day

Tezpur: Tagging with the theme ‘Mental Health Promotion and Suicide Prevention’, Lokopriya Gopinath Bordoloi Regional Institute of Mental Health (LGBRIMH), Tezpur organized World Mental Health Day on Thursday in the auditorium of the institute.

The programme started with the lighting of lamp by the dignitaries, chief guest Dr. Lakshmi Goswami, renowned physician and gyneacologist, Dr Krishna Kemprai, Joint Director Health Services, Sonitpur, Dr S K Deuri, Director of LGBRIMH, Tezpur and Dr Vijay Gogoi , organizing secretary (WMHD 2019). Dr. Sonia P. Deuri, Head and Professor of the Department of Psychiatric Social Work and chairperson of the organizing committee delivered the welcome address.

A documentary on the institute showing the developmental phases of the institute from Lunatic Asylum to present Lokopriya Gopinath Bordoloi Regional Institute of Mental Health with patient care, academic and research activities was screened on this occasion. Dr. Lakshmi Goswami released The Bridge, the newsletter of the institute. Professor Dipesh Bhagabati, retired Professor of Psychiatry, Gauhati Medical College and Hospital, and guest of honour of the meeting, launched the new website of the institute. In his address, he shared incidents he faced while treating patients and those who had suicidal tendency. He emphasized creating awareness and early treatment.

Dr. SK Deuri, Director, LGBRIMH, in his speech emphasized spreading information about availability of different services and other facilities at LGBRIMH to prevent suicide among the people and he also talked about promotion of mental health.
