LMCH to be Inaugurated by August 15: Himanta Sarma

LAKHIMPUR: “The Lakhimpur Medical College and Hospital (LMCH) will be inaugurated and dedicated to the service of humanity by August 15, 2020. Then the medical course will be started in the medical institution for the aspiring students of the entire North Bank of the State,” said State Health, Finance, and PWD Minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma on Sunday in Lakhimpur.

He said this while delivering his speech in a public meeting organized on the occasion of the inauguration of Mother and Child Health Hospital and free of a cost dialysis centre in the district. The Health Minister inaugurated the 100-bedded Mother and Child Health Hospital under NHM and a free of cost dialysis centre under Prime Minister’s National Dialysis Programme at North Lakhimpur Civil Hospital (NLCH) campus at Saboti in North Lakhimpur town.

In his speech, Sarma expected that the functioning of these medical institutions would render great relief to the poor patients of the district. Notably, the dialysis service in the dialysis centre will be rendered by the specialists from Apollo Hospital. In the meeting, he further declared that the Health Department of the State had already established a Cancer Care Hospital in NLCH campus and construction company Larsen and Turbo had been engaged for the construction of the hospital. “The hospital will be completed within 18 months. Henceforth, facilities for all cancer-related treatment like chemotherapy, radiotherapy and cancer surgery will be available in Lakhimpur, heralding a new horizon in the health sector of the State,” he added.

In connection, highlighting the developmental and health-related flagship schemes implemented by the BJP-led State Government and their impact, the Health Minister asserted that a drastic change had come to the State within the last three-and-half years. “This has been possible because the people of the State are standing in favour of progress and prosperity. Development is now possible because a peaceful and harmonious environment exists in the State. The State is now free of stirs and agitations under the regime of the present State Government,” he further stated.

Sarma said that 1,06,000 patients of Lakhimpur had already availed the service of free of cost blood tests till day while free of cost CT scan service had been provided to 14,000 patients, X-Ray to 35,000 patients, Ayushman card benefit to 4,000 patients and Atal Amrit Abhiyan card had been used by 1,608 patients.

He declared that the PWD department would invest a fund amounting to Rs 35 crore for the development of the road and communication infrastructure of North Lakhimpur. As per his declaration, free of cost textbooks will be supplied to degree-level students from the next year. Similarly, the scheme taken for the offering one tola gold for the marriage of matured girl will be implemented from February 1, 2020, after cabinet approval. He informed that the next cabinet meeting of the State Government would be held on November 19 and the decision for implementing the scheme concerned would be taken in that meeting. In connection, the minister eulogized the benefits of the schemes implemented by the existing State Government and stated that these schemes had ensured social security by economically empowering the people of the State.
