TANGLA: In a heart-wrenching incident, a family land dispute took an ugly turn which claimed the life of a quinquagenarian in Bhutuniduba village in Udalguri district on Friday morning. According to reports, the victim Asgar Ali (52) was killed by his elder brother Akbar Ali over a long-standing property dispute.

Meanwhile, Udalguri Police have apprehended Akbar Ali and his wife Hamida Begum in connection with the incident. The local villagers have alleged that Akbar Ali along with his wife Hamida Khatun and his son Abdus Salam are involved in the brutal killing. The police said there was a long-standing dispute between the brothers over the property. The prime accused Akbar Ali have confessed to the crime. He arrived at his brother's house and picked a quarrel with him. Later he tied his hands with rope and attacked him with stick and bricks killing him on the spot. The police of Shapmari outpost under Udalguri Police Station rushed to the village after being informed about the killing and sent the body to Udalguri Civil Hospital for postmortem. The body was handed over to the family on Friday evening. Udalguri Police have registered a case vide Udalguri PS case no. 79/22 and are investigating the matter.
