MANGALDAI: The 'Village Band' or the Band Party, known popularly throughout Assam as being an integral part of the ever rich Assamese culture is an essential part of the Assamese wedding ceremonies, or other socio-religious functions. This 'Village Band', mostly formed by the rural farmers, is also a glorious part of the Darrangi culture.

Since the imposition of the countrywide lockdown, these rural artists have begun to suffer even more when they turned jobless due to the non-solemnization of weddings, one of the many outcomes of the ongoing pandemic, which has turned their lives miserable as they have been compelled by Mother Nature to remain penniless.

Mangaldai legislator Guru Jyoti Das, with a view to encourage and inspire these artists, both psychologically and physically, and to express his solidarity towards their sufferings and pain at this hour of immense global crisis, on Monday, invited 400 artistes of the 'Village Bands' of the district at Nehru Field, Chapai, near here, and offered them packets of essential food commodities. He also offered them masks, specially carved out by the members of the Mohila Morcha of the BJP.

President of Darrang district BJP Amarendra Sarma, vice president Sewali Goswami Kalita and other office bearers of the BJP attended the function. Media persons Bhargab Kumar Das, Hemanta Kumar Barua and Ganesh Dutta also attended the function. Mangaldai legislator Guru Jyoti Das has offered packets of food commodities to the artistes of the 'Village Band' at the Nehru Field at Chapai near Mangaldai on Monday.
