DOOMDOOMA: An undivided Dibrugarh District former AASU activists (1979 to 1985) meet was held at Doomdooma Marwari Panchayati Bhavan on Sunday with Biren Deka in the chair.

While reminiscing the days of the Assam Movement, the activists felt the urgent necessity to do something concrete and constructive for the cause of the State which was currently passing through a critical phase. The former AASU leaders coming from different parts of the Dibrugarh and Tinsukia districts became emotional in this rare get-together organized after a gap of 35 years.

In the beginning, one-minute silence was observed in memory of the martyrs. Kuleswar Phukan explained the objectives of the meeting while Ashraful Haque Chaudhury welcomed the guests. AASU, Tinsukia District Committee, in association with Doomdooma Regional Students' Union felicitated the former AASU members with a phulam gamosa and a pen. The meeting, which was addressed by several speakers, laid great importance in the formation of a convener committee to decide on the future course of action. Accordingly, a 11-member convener committee was formed with Abhimanyu Baruah of Dibrugarh as convener and Kuleswar Phukan of Doomdooma as chief convenor.

In his address, Binoy Dubey, executive member of AASU central committee, exhorted the former members to give proper counsel to AASU to strengthen its organizational base.
