Dibrugarh, June 24: The Sonowal Kachari Autonomous Council recently awarded more than 850 meritorious students belonging to the Sonowal community at District Library. All such students, who have passed the recently announced Matriculation and Higher Secondary Examinations with a minimum of 60 % marks, and who had applied for the award, were honoured with the Shubha Baruah Educational Talent Award. Students securing 85% or more marks were awarded with 20,000 rupees, and the ones who secured marks in the range of 60% to 84% were feted with 10,000 rupees cash by the council. The award distribution ceremony was graced by many dignitaries including Power Minister, Tapan Kumar Gogoi, MLAs, Prashanta Phukan and Rituparna Baruah, and Surajit Barkataky of Dibrugarh University. The ceremony, in the first leg of the event, covered districts located on the Southern Bank of Brahmaputra, that is to say, Dibrugarh, Tinsukia, Sivasagar, Charaideu, Jorhat and Golaghat. The second leg, scheduled for June 26 in Gogamukh, would cover the districts on the Northern Bank of the river.
