Mising organizations demand inclusion of Mising Autonomous Council in Sixth Schedule

A CORRESPONDENT

LAKHIMPUR: MMK, TMPK and TMMK organized a press conference in Dhakuakhana on Monday. Addressing the media persons, the dignitaries of the organizations raised strong demand to include Mising Autonomous Council in the Sixth Schedule and to declare the Mising language as the medium of education in the primary schools in the Mising community living areas of the State.

Regarding these issues, they came down heavily against the alleged negligence on the part of governments in the Centre and the State towards fulfilling their demands.

“The Mising community organizations have been agitating since 1987 in order to attain the constitutional facilities. But the governments in the past and present have paid no attention in fulfilling our demands. The successive governments have comprehensively neglected the issues of paying constitutional status to the MAC by including it in the Sixth Schedule and declaring the Mising language as the medium of education. The ruling government at present has completed its responsibility by constituting a parliamentary sub-committee regarding the issues. Nothing is finalized and decided,” said Sunil Pegu, the district president of MMK while expressing his resentment.

He declared that the Mising organizations would intensify agitation with the help of the native people if the Union and the State governments did not take any steps to fulfil their demands after the declaration of the parliamentary poll result.
