GOALPARA: Golam Mostofa, a higher secondary first-year student who had been missing since Sunday evening from his Oasis Academy college hostel in Goalpara town, was rescued by the Railway Police from West Bengal’s Alipurduar junction on Monday night.

“He was rescued by the railway police when they found him lying in a semi-conscious condition in his seat in the Rajendra Express, a Guwahati-Rajasthan train,” informed Sayed Ali, father of Mostofa who brought his son back home from Alipurduar. Police doubt he was drugged.

Sayed Ali further said that when the police tried to rescue the boy, a Hindi-speaking family, a woman and two men, stopped the police by saying that Mostofa had stolen their belongings and they would take him to Katihar, to their native town, and hand him over to the police.

At this, the police insisted the family to come down and file the complaint at Alipurduar Junction. But taking advantage of the darkness and busy junction, the family disappeared from the station. Later, police collected the home address of Mostofa and informed his father.

Sayed Ali doubts that the same family had tried to traffic his son from Goalpara town to Rajasthan and accompanied him in the train. “My son was probably drugged in front of the Vishal Market of Goalpara where he had gone on Sunday evening for shopping alone from the hostel and that is the last place he can remember prior to the incident,” he added.

Sayed Ali had filed a missing report at Goalpara police station on Monday. The police had assured him that due to the Bharat Bandh on Monday, his son would be recovered soon even if he had been trafficked. Sayed Ali is a resident of Sedamari-Balapara village under Jogighopa police station of Bongaigaon district and his son Mostofa studies in Goalpara district’s Oasis Academy Junior College in Goalpara town. His elder brother Hafizur also studies in the same college.
