Month-long-free vaccination programme for cattle underway

TINSUKIA: In order to control the livestock diseases by 2025 and to eradicate them by 2030, the National Animal Disease Control Programme (NADCP) was launched nationwide which will cover cattle, buffalo, sheep, goats, and pigs against the FMD (Foot & Mouth Disease). In Tinsukia district, the month-long extensive free vaccination programme was launched on November 15 in presence of veterinary officials and other guests.

Organized by the department of Animal Husbandry and Veterinary, Tinsukia, Dr Rabi Sankar Choudhury, the nodal officer for NADCP, inaugurated the programme at Gausala Tinsukia in presence of Dr Prabhat Dutta, veterinary officer (mobile), Dr Hiramoni Deka, veterinary officer, and veterinary field assistants Muhin Chetia, Bipul Gogoi, Khargapani Medhi; MAITRI- Nayanmoni Baruah and vaccinators Raju Sharma and Sanjay Prasad.

Dr Hiramoni Deka told this correspondent that initially all cattle population would be covered and the cattle that were vaccinated were registered by ear tagging. So far, 176 cattle have been vaccinated since launch of the programme in the district, Dr Deka said. She also felt the need for mass awareness programme with wide publicity.
