DHUBRI: An anchor recovered from the north bank of the Brahmaputra in Dhubri on Tuesday created a great deal of curiosity among the people of Dhubri.

An anchor believed to be more than 100 years old when Dhubri River Port was operational was recovered. However, the place of recovery of the anchor has given rise to questions as it is far off from the Dhubri River Port area.

The Dhubri river transport system dates back to 1765 circa when Armenians used to trade by ships and it was probably then that the river port was operational in the Majherchar area where the anchor was recovered on Tuesday.

An official informed that Dhubri River Port at free India Ghat in Dhubri town was closed after the Indo-Pak war in 1965. The Dhubri district Museum Officer, Mrinmoy Das was not available for comments.

A high official informed that they would visit the spot on Wednesday and take the anchor in government possession.
