NAGAON: Violence, discretion and ruckus of various political parties were missing in the first phase of panchayat polls, yet some co-related incidents still draw the attention of the people of the district, especially when some on-duty electoral authority allegedly flout the model code of conduct even inside the polling station, it automatically raises eyebrows.

Such an unlawful incident took place on Thursday morning at Kampur Bakulguri Pothar LP School polling station when empty bottles of liquor and empty packets of gutka were found on the table inside a classroom. Hundreds of voters cast their votes in the school on Wednesday amidst tight security arrangements.

Sources said that the school was occupied by the polling and presiding officials on the eve of the polls and they left the school campus on Wednesday night. Thereafter, the school was locked till Thursday morning. The people of the entire area and the teaching staff of the school have sought a high-level enquiry into the activities of the polling staff. In response to the public demand, the Deputy Commissioner of Nagaon, Biswajit Pegu on Thursday declared a magistrate inquiry against these misdeeds.
