A CORRESPONDENT

LAKHIMPUR: Due to inclement weather and heavy showers in Arunachal Pradesh and Lakhimpur and Dhemaji districts since Saturday night, the water level in the catchment area of the Ranganadi Hydro Electric Plant (RHEP) has risen.

As a result of it, the management of the NEEPCO operated Hydro Electric Plant has once again released the excess water from the Ranganadi dam through its Radial Gate No. 4 since Monday. It is noteworthy that the RHEP management closed the Gate on July 18 after continuously releasing the excess water from the dam since July 8. The flood caused by the Ranganadi River due to the release of the excess water during those ten days inundated a good number of revenue villages under North Lakhimpur and Naoboicha revenue circles, paralyzing normal life

On Monday, the gate of the river dam was opened by 500mm from 2.45 pm, 1000mm from 3.45 pm and 1200 mm from 4.45 pm. The same gate had been opened by 1000mm since 6.00 pm till the time of filing of this report.

On the other hand, due to the downpour, the water levels of the rivers of the district like Subansiri at Ghancharai, Ranganadi, Dikrong, Singara, Pabha, Boginadi, Dropang, Sessa (Pichala) have risen since Monday morning as per the report found from the district Water Resource Department, though they are flowing under the danger levels.
