LAKHIMPUR: The recent wave of flood has inundated new areas under Lakhimpur district.

Due to heavy rainfall in last couples of days in Lakhimpur and neighbouring State of Arunachal Pradesh, overflowing water of various rivers of the district inundated a total of 56 revenue villages on Thursday under 6 Revenue Circles (RC) of the district. However, flood receded from 13 villages on Friday and 43 revenue villages were reeling under flood. But on Friday, due to ongoing incessant downpour, the recent wave of flood inundated 57 revenue villages under Narayanpur, Dhakuakhana, Subansiri, Naoboicha and Bihpuriya RCs in the district. At present, 15 villages in Narayanpur RC, 6 villages under Dhakuakhana RC, 6 villages under Subansiri RC, 16 villages under Naoboicha RC, 14 villages under Bihpuriya RC have been affected by flood.

Flood caused by the River Singara has affected Gosanibar, No. 1 Gelahati, No 2 Gelahati, Chengelijan, Ahomoni, Khabolu FV, Pomua FV, Pokonia FV, Kawoibhuruka, Bamungaya, Haribor Doloni, Ranabari, No. 2 Sonapur, Puniya Pothar Ghesek FV and Borgoya Gendhali villages. According to the report of the district administration, a total of 13,909 people, 839 hectares of crop areas, 7,126 big animals and 3,650 small animals, 1,295 poultry have been affected by the fresh wave of flood. In Dhakuakhana RC, Krishnapur to Chandigaon Road and Gobindapur to Matmora Road have been flooded.

On the other hand, the release of the excess water from the Ranganadi dam of Ranganadi Hydro Electric Plant (RHEP) from Friday evening continued. On Friday, the NEEPCO at first released the excess water from the dam by opening its Gate No. 2 by 200mm at 5.15pm. Then the excess water was released through the same gate by opening it by 400mm from 6.00pm to 7.00pm. At 7.00pm, Dam Gate No 5 was opened by 700mm, then 400mm from 5.30am, 200mm from 6.30am, 300mm from 9.30am, 800mm from 10.00am, 1300mm from 10.10am, 2000mm from 10.20am, 2500mm from 10.30mm, 1500mm from 12.30pm, 1000mm from 2.15pm. The gate was opened by 700mm from 4.45pm till the time of filing of the report.
