TINSUKIA: The Tinsukia district committee of Asom Jatiyatabadi Yuba-Chatra Parishad (AJYCP) along with several students' bodies staged a massive protest at Tinsukia DC's office on Tuesday against the revised mandates of Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) being implemented by the Oil India Limited (OIL). They later submitted a joint memorandum to the Chief Minister through the district administration of Tinsukia highlighting 10 points charter of demands.

The memorandum stated that the new guidelines CSR were not acceptable to them as these were against the public interest and must restore the earlier guidelines. It demanded that the CSR grant should be enhanced from 2 per cent to 6 per cent of the profit amount besides inclusion of an acceptable person of Tinsukia district in the selection of proposals.

It also desired OIL to release CSR funds as demanded by public and various organisations. The numerous oil wells in Tinsukia district has caused damage to environment and threatened human-life including tea gardens and in this context, the organisations demanded that the OIL should halt drilling of new oil well and to engage modern technology to extract oil from old fields. OIL must stop engaging privately owned contractors in drilling and extraction of oil, the memo stated besides others. The memorandum was signed by the representatives of TRSU (AASU), AAGSU, AATSA, AMSU, ATASU etc.
