DOOMDOOMA: All Assam Students' Union (AASU) general secretary Lurinjyoti Gogoi inaugurated the new office building of Doomdooma Regional Students' Union (DRSU) situated at Rotary Path on Thursday amid much fanfare.

Earlier, he was taken into the main venue with Gayan Bayan in a procession led by a well-decorated elephant from Doomdooma town field. He was accompanied by Binod Dubey, AASU central committee member, and other Tinsukia district committee office bearers.

A souvenir Mukta Kantha published on the occasion under the joint editorship of Abhijit Khataniar and Rudrajit Silponia was also released by AASU general secretary Lurinjyoti Gogoi. In the beginning, one-minute silence was observed in memory of Parag Bhuyan, former AASU leader and scribe, who succumbed to his injuries on Thursday morning after meeting with an accident on Wednesday night.

In his inaugural speech, Lurinjyoti Gogoi said that Doomdooma Regional Students' Union had a glorious past. As for the AASU, he spoke briefly about its role in upholding the cause of Assam in the past and drew the attention of the gathering about the challenges it was facing now in the wake of the Citizenship (Amendment) Act and the divisive tactics of the ruling power in driving wedges amongst different communities living in Assam. To build a united and strong Assam, the issues like employment and price rise should get topmost priority in the agenda of the government, he pointed out. The meeting felicitated the founder president of Doomdooma Regional Students' Union, Dimbeswar Sonowal and founder secretary JatinSaikia.
