NITI Aayog rates Darrang as best performing district in Northeast

MANGALDAI: The teamwork of the Darrang district administration under the leadership of Deputy Commissioner Ghanshyam Dass for improvement of various aspiration parameters, including health, education, and nutrition, has resulted in Darrang district being rated as ‘best performing district’ among the all 14 aspirational districts of the Northeast. This announcement made by the NITI Aayog has made all the officials, employees of departments concerned and agencies highly encouraged and inspired. Even the cross-section of society have expressed their satisfaction and congratulated the district administration for their relentless effort and initiative.

The announcement was made in the three-day conclave of ‘Sustainable Development Goals 2020’ organized jointly by NITI Aayog and North Eastern Council in Guwahati that began from Monday. The achievement came following the monitoring of the performances by the competent authority during the period from March 2018 to December 2019. Darrang, as announced in the inaugural session of the conclave, has emerged as the ‘best performing district’ with an aggregate improvement of 47.8 percent. In the education sector, the district has recorded an improvement of 46 percent followed by Barpeta with 43 percent. Apart from Darrang, two other districts which have shown an aggregate of above 40 percent performance improvement, including Barpeta and Goalpara.

In addition to these three aspirational districts of the State, Dhubri district has recorded significant improvement both in financial inclusion and skill development sectors. Sustainable Development Goals is a UNDP mandated programme. Chief Ministers of the north-eastern States or their representatives, DoNER Minister, vice-chairman of NITI Aayog and UN Resident Coordinator of India took part in the inaugural function.

Significantly, the Chief Executive Officer of NITI Aayog tweeted the achievement of Darrang and also congratulated Assam Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal for taking up measures for showing improvements in the said aspirational districts. Darrang Deputy Commissioner Ghanshyam Dass has termed the achievement as the outcome of the hard work of ‘Team Darrang’.
