LAKHIMPUR: The North Lakhimpur regional unit of All Assam Students' Union (AASU) on Sunday observed Swahid Divas in memory of martyrs Dharma Kanta Dutta, Abala Das, Sarulora Saikia and Deepchand Rajkhowa who made supreme sacrifice during the anti-foreigners movement in the State.

The programme was organized at Swahid Bhavan in North Lakhimpur town. It began with the unfurling of AASU flag by North Lakhimpur regional unit president Pranjit Gogoi. Lakhimpur district AASU general secretary Dhanmoni Dutta, North Lakhimpur subdivision unit general secretary Sarat Baruah and North Lakhimpur regional unit general secretary Punamjyoti Buragohain paid floral tribute to the martyrs commemorating their noble deeds and sacrifice made for securing the existence of the State and the Assamese community.

As a part of the programme, North Lakhimpur regional unit AASU feted the family members of martyrs and oppressed persons of the movement. The programme concluded with the lighting of earthen lamps at Swahid Bhavan.
