Noted educationist Minati Neog passes away in Sivasagar district

GAURISAGAR: Minati Neog, a resident of Gaurisagar in Sivasagar district, a noted educationist, writer and former teacher of Gaurisagar Higher Secondary Industrial Institute (GHII) and wife of late Bhuban Neog, the founder principal of GHII passed away on Saturday afternoon at her residence due to old age ailment. She was 85.

Born in 1935 at Dhuliapar Dicial village in Sivasagar, she did her schooling from Phuleswari Girls HS School, Sivasagar.

Due to early marriage she could not complete her higher education. But after marriage she took P. Degree (P.U) from SMD College, Charing. She started her career as an Assistant Teacher at Khanakhokora Girls M.V School. Later in 1960 she joined GHII in request of B. Les, the then Inspector of Schools, Sivasagar.

She got superannuation in 1993. She was a noted writer and wrote many stories, articles that were published in various vernicular dailies and monthly magazines. In 1970 her story Rajpath Tumaloi Namaskar acclaimed as the best story of the year in the Dainik Asom. For her contribution in the field of education she was conferred Guru Mahiyan title by All Assam Higher Secondary Teachers and Employees Association, Sivasagar District Committee.

Her demise was widely mourned in entire Gaurisagar area. Before cremation, a Rajahuwa Shraddhanjali function was held where the teachers and employees of GHII, Gaurisagar High School, Khanakhokora High School, Sivasagar Zila Xahitya Xabha, Silpukhuri High school, Gaurisagar Jestha Nagarik Mancha, Khanamukh HS school, representative of MP Tapan Gogoi, Gaurisagar Press Club, Khanakhokora Girls MV School, Gaurisagar Sakha Xahitya Xabha, among other organizations paid rich tribute to the noted educationist and writer. She is survived by three sons, one daughter and a host of relatives.
