OIL commences seismic data acquisition campaign in OALP blocks in NE

Naharkatia: Oil India Limited, a Government of India enterprise engaged in the exploration, production and transportation of crude oil and natural gas with footprints in other energy sectors, commenced Seismic Data Acquisition campaign in Northeast India. OIL was awarded nine blocks, seven in Assam and Arunachal Pradesh in the Northeast and two in Rajasthan under OALP-1 round.

OIL earned the distinction of being the first operator to commence exploration activities in OALP blocks in the country through conduct of 2D and 3D Seismic Data Acquisition in Rajasthan blocks in the month of November, 2019. The seismic data acquisition in the Northeast was also started by OIL in its OALP blocks AA-ONHP-2017/17 and AA-ONHP-2017/18 on January 27 and January 28 respectively.

Narsingh Panwar, Deputy Commissioner, and Dr Dhananjay Parshuram Ghanawat, Superintendent of Police, Dhemaji district, visited the field site of AA-ONHP-2017/18 block at Dhemaji district on Saturday. They were received in the field by OIL team led by Dr. P. Chandrasekaran, Director (Exploration and Development). The high-ranking officials of the government took keen interest in understanding the process of hydrocarbon exploration, development and production and asked about the various technologies that are used in seismic data acquisition. It was informed by OIL, that state-of-the-art cableless technology was being used for seismic data acquisition in the block. While assuring all support from the government, they urged OIL to carry out further exploration activities in the State so that more hydrocarbon resources were discovered leading to an overall improvement in the quality of life in the region.

The seven blocks awarded to OIL under OALP-1 in the Northeast are contiguous to its existing operational areas known as Main Producing Area in Assam and Arunachal Pradesh. OIL plans to carry out intensive exploration activities in its quest of establishing more hydrocarbon reserves.
