Passenger Services Committee inspects facilities in Udalguri and Tangla railway stations

TANGLA: Chairman and members of the Passenger Services Committee, constituted by the Railway Board, inspected the facilities for passengers on platforms, waiting halls, food stalls and the toilets on platforms in Udalguri and Tangla railway stations on Tuesday. Chairman of Passenger Services Committee Ramesh Chandra Ratn, visited Udalguri and Tangla railway stations who was accompanied by a group of members from the railway board who also interacted with the passengers and took stock of their grievances and vowed to wipe them out in a phased manner. He also directed the concerned railway officials to look into the grievances and take all necessary steps on war footing to solve the problems.
The Public Interest, a public organisation on the occasion submitted a two-page memorandum to the chairman with demands to make a stoppage of New Tinsukia- Tambaram Chennai Express at the Udalguri railway station, to take necessary steps to construct an overbridge near the Udalguri railway station to ease the general commuters, to set up an ATM at the Udalguri railway station, to make a stoppage of Dibrugarh New Delhi Rajdhani Express at the Rangiya junction, to set up a GRPF district headquarter office and to make frequent patrolling at the Udalguri railway station particularly during the night hours, to introduce a new intercity between Rangapara and New Jalpaiguri junction, to resume the erstwhile Rangapara- Alipurduar junction Arunachal Express intercity train.
The chairman gave a patient hearing to all these grievances and assured to solve them. Ratn, after interacing with passengers at the Udalguri railway station, awarded an amount of Rs.5000 to the Udalguri railway station for it's 'Swacchata Abhiyan' on the occasion. The Udalguri Chamber of Commerce, the Udalguri branch of Indian Red Cross Society, the Grahak Suraksha Samiti etc. to submitted memorandum to the chairman on the occasion. Later, the group of railway board members moved to Guwahati via Rangiya junction after inspecting the Tangla railway station.
