PATHSALA: With an aim to boost immunity by using the lockdown period in a productive way, a girl from Assam has begun online yoga coaching. Being confined at home is mentally challenging. Besides staying connected with family and friends and maintaining a healthy lifestyle, there is another thing that can help keep anxiety and mental health in check - yoga. Smita Parashar, a resident of Pathsala town in Barpeta district, has completed BPEd with specialization in yoga and also has a Masters' degree in Yogic Science and Naturopathy.

Speaking to this correspondent, Smita said that the restricted travel, fear of risk of infection, continuous flow of negative news and scarcity of day-to-day materials were some of the things that gave her the idea to start the online yoga classes.

"To remain confined inside the house is mentally challenging," she said. "Yoga, apart from helping to maintain a healthy lifestyle, also helps in keeping anxiety and mental health in check," she added.

"I want the next generation to remain stress-free with a strong immune system and healthy body. The sole aim behind these online sessions is to pass on the mantra of staying fit and healthy during this pandemic. As social distancing has reduced our physical movement, it is important to uplift vitality without having to step out of the comfort of our homes," she said. "With the practice of good hygiene, one must also adopt ways to boost one's immunity naturally," she added.
