PATHSALA: A woman in Pathsala town has grown an organic kitchen garden on the top of her residential building with vegetables, including medicinal vegetables, and flowers.

For Mrinalini Deka Medhi, a teacher by profession, gardening is her hobby. “Nowadays the vegetables available in the market are dangerous for health due to use of pesticides and chemical fertilizers indiscriminately. So my endeavour is to fulfil my family’s vegetable needs and also to encourage the people of the locality to take up kitchen gardening,” said Mrinalini.

Her garden is full with various vegetables like green spinach, beans, broccoli, tomato, radish, varieties of chilli, lemon, palm, strawberry, bottle guard and bitter guard. She collects vermi compost and cow dung for her garden. Since the last four years she has been gardening and this year she even built a green house on the top floor of her building for organic gardening.

“A lot of people in my locality visit my garden and encourage me in my work and I too encourage them to do such gardening which has a positive impact on her health,” she said. She uses empty pots and fish tray for planting vegetables and flowers in her garden.
