Stringent action against rumour spreaders

LAKHIMPUR: The second phase of 'Har Ghar Dastak' COVID-19 inoculation campaign to increase vaccination coverage will start in Lakhimpur district from Monday. It will run up to December 5.

This was stated by Sumit Sattawan, the Deputy Commissioner of Lakhimpur, in a media briefing programme on Sunday evening. The programme was convened in the conference hall of the Lakhimpur Circuit House on Sunday evening in the presence of Superintendent of Police (SP) Bedanta Madhav Rajkhowa, ADC (Health) Geetalee Duworah, Joint Director Dr. Mahendra Das and other district officers of the Health Department.

According to the Deputy Commissioner, the inoculation of COVID-19 vaccine under the campaign will be conducted at 911 polling station across the district. For this purpose, the district was divided into 32 zones and 79 sectors. On the other hand, 32 zonal officers, 79 sector officers, 79 area officers, 867 VVOs, 889 AVVOs have been engaged in order to monitor and ensure the vaccine inoculation to those who have still not received even the first dose of the same.

A Vaccine Verifying Team will monitor the programme. The Deputy Commissioner and the SP themselves and other high-level officers of the district administration will visit the polling stations as members of the Vaccine Verifying Team.

The Deputy Commissioner added that the district administration and the District Health Department had adopted various measures, including counselling, in order to eliminate vaccine hesitancy among the people. He called upon the people of the district, who have still not vaccinated, to come forward to combat the COVID-19 pandemic. He asserted that the district administration had already prepared a list of such people.

In the media briefing programme, the Deputy Commissioner apprised the vaccination achievement in the district too.

"Till date, a total of 10,990 vaccination sessions were held in the district wherein 11,34,855 total doses of vaccine were administered. Out of them, 7,02,072 people of the district received 1st dose while 2nd dose was administered to 4,32,783 people. The target for vaccination in the district is 76885. At present, 91.31 per cent success in vaccination has been achieved", the Deputy Commissioner asserted.

Addressing the media persons, the SP stated that the Police Department and Village Defence Party would also play vital role in the campaign to ensure vaccine inoculation to all. He added that the police would initiate stringent action as per law against the rumour spreaders regarding COVID-19 vaccine.
