Police official commits suicide

GOALPARA, June 18: A police Sub Inspector (SI) of Dudhnoi police station shot himself in his quarter. Upendra Nath Talukdar (55), who is from Patacharkuchi of Barpeta district, killed himself with his 9 mm service pistol presumably on Saturday night. Talukdar’s body was found on Sunday morning in a pool of blood. A bullet pierced his head. Higher police officials immediately rushed to the spot. Later, his body was sent for post-mortem. Talukdar had joined service in Goalpara district after a promotion transfer in the post of SI back in December, 2017. He had about five years of service left. He was suffering from various diseases, including diabetes. He was also suffering from depression, said Amitava Sinha, Superintendent of Police. The Goalpara district police consoled Upen Talukdar’s death. He is survived by two daughters and a son.
