BISWANATH CHARIALI: The concluding programme of Poshan Month was held in the Conferrence hall of the Office of the Deputy Commissioner, Biswanath on September 30. The Deputy Commissioner of Biswanath, Dhruvajyoti Das was the chief guest in the programme while Additional Deputy Commissioner Kuldip Hazarika, BDO of Behali, Abdul Kalam, District Programme Assistant Lipika Das etc were also present on the occasion. The programme was conducted by District Project Assistant Parismita Dutta. This year Poshan Month, 2020 aims to reach out to citizens with the message - A step towards Kuposhan Mukt Bharat and focuses on two mains activities - identification of Severe Acute Malnourished (SAM) and Moderately Acute Malnourished (MAM) children. It also focused on plantation drive for promotion of Poshan Vatika (Nutri Gardens).

A good number of programmes were organized during the month. It included district level Google meets with all CDPOs, Supervisors and Block Coordinators, district level convergence meeting conducted by the District Social Welfare Office, three block-level convergence meetings held at Biswanath ICDS project, Baghmara ICDS project and SDO (civil), Gohpur etc.

A total of 70 AWCs were selected for developing kitchen gardens funded by Poshan Abhiyaan, Assam. There are some important objectives to develop kitchen garden at AWCs. Four district level Digital Poshan Panchayats were conducted by P&RD Department in convergence with Social Welfare Department involving Block teams, PRI members, Gaonburhas, AWCMC Members and CDPO, Supervisors, POSHAN Staff and selected AWWs.

An online essay competition was also organised by Education Department, Biswanath under POSHAN Abhiyaan. Other programmes included plantation drive carried out by Agriculture Department and exhibition of locally available nutritious food and vegetables. It may be mentioned here that the Prime Minister's Overarching Scheme for Holistic Nutrition or POSHAN Abhiyaan or National Nutrition Mission, is Government of India's flagship programme to improve nutritional outcomes for children, pregnant women and lactating mothers. The POSHAN Abhiyaan directs the attention of the country towards malnutrition issue and addresses it in a mission-mode.
