Preparatory meeting held in Sivasagar for Independence Day celebrations

In view of the upcoming Independence Day celebrations on August 15, a preparatory meeting was held at the Sukafa Conference Hall of the District Commissioner’s office in Sivasagar on Thursday.

SIVASAGAR: In view of the upcoming Independence Day celebrations on August 15, a preparatory meeting was held at the Sukafa Conference Hall of the District Commissioner’s office in Sivasagar on Thursday. The meeting aimed to ensure the smooth, peaceful, and successful conduct of the district-level celebrations.

District Commissioner Aayush Garg chaired the meeting, where comprehensive discussions were held regarding departmental responsibilities and duties to ensure a seamless execution of the Independence Day programme. Matters related to public security and safety were thoroughly reviewed, and the schedule of the main ceremonial event was also deliberated upon.

During the meeting, the District Commissioner directed all government offices and institutions to begin illumination of buildings from August 11 onward to mark the occasion. He also instructed the Public Works Department (Building and Roads) to jointly take up the task of tastefully painting the historic Old Dikhow Bridge while preserving its original essence, and installing focus lights for enhanced visual appeal. Furthermore, he issued orders to illuminate key historical monuments such as Rang Ghar, Kareng Ghar, and Talatal Ghar in advance.

The DC also directed the illumination of prominent and significant bridges across the district in an aesthetically pleasing manner. He urged heads of all government departments to ensure the cleanliness, safety, and security of their respective offices before the celebrations. Emphasizing commitment, he appealed to officials and employees of all concerned departments to fulfil their assigned responsibilities with sincerity and contribute to the success of the event.

As per the official district-level schedule, the celebrations will include Prabhat Pheri from 5:00 am to 6:00am, playing of patriotic songs from 6:00am to 7:00am, flag hoisting at private residences at 7:00am, flag hoisting at educational institutions, and all government, semi-government, and private offices at 7:30am, martyrs’ tribute at Piyoli Phukan Udyan, Anandaram Baruah Udyan, and the War Memorial at 8:20 am, main ceremonial function at Boarding Field with flag hoisting by the chief guest, march-past by police, NCC, Scouts & Guides, Home Guards, and paramilitary forces, followed by cultural performances from 9:00am onwards, friendly football match at 3:00 PM, and national flag retreat ceremony at 5:40 pm.

The meeting was attended by Additional District Commissioner Gauri Priya Deori, assistant commissioners Chandana Kuruganti Jahnavi, Kankana Saikia, Nimashri Dauka, Ganesh Chandra Baro, Shubhajit Khound, and Parishmita Dehingia. Also present were revenue circle officers from Sivasagar, Demow, Amguri, and Nazira: Syed Nekib Barua, Ankan Jyoti Phukan, Arup Bikromiya, and Chandana Barua respectively. Executive Officer of Sivasagar Municipal Board Debabrata Sharma, along with senior officials of various departments and invited eminent citizens, also participated in the meeting.
