TINSUKIA: The historic Digboi Oil Refinery witnessed massive protest by more than hundred contractual workers at the entrance gate of IOC (AOD) refinery on Tuesday after services of few contractual labourers were terminated without any notice who have been serving in the refinery for several years.
The protest spearheaded by Bharatiyo Tikha Mazdoor Union was against a AOD registered contractor who allegedly masterminded termination of services at his whim. The protesters alleged that the contractor by deceiving the existing workers has been contemplating to appoint his own relatives. The Digboi regional committee of Gurkha Students' Union, while strongly condemning the unethical attitude of the IOC management and the contractor, demanded reinstatement of workers and threatened to launch democratic agitation if this did not happen.
