DOOMDOOMA: Ramdhenu Mahila Chora, a women's socio-cultural organization of Doomdooma, organized a felicitation meeting in honour of its founder president, Bina Deka on Sunday at Doomdooma Natya Mandir.

Bina Deka, a former Principal of Doomdooma College, is a leading social worker and was instrumental in setting up two women organizations, namely Sadau Asam Lekhika Samaroh Samity (SALSS), Doomdooma Sakha and Ramdhenu Mahila Chora (RMC), Doomdooma. The meeting, which was presided over by Dibyalata Deka, was attended by Arjun Baruah, president of Tinsukia Zila Xahitya Xabha (TZXX) as chief guest while Bimala Baruah, president, Doomdooma Sakha Xahitya Xabha (DSXX) and Dipa Dutta Bhajani, secretary, SALSS, Doomdooma Sakha attended the meeting as guests of honour.

The programme began with a chorus composed by Purusottam Das and presented by members of RMC under the leadership of Giri Das. Thereafter, Rumi Pathak read out the address of felicitation and then public ovation was given to Bina Deka with a phulam gamosa and a memento. In her address, Bina Deka offered sincere thanks to the members and spoke briefly about her experience in establishing a women's organization like RMC. Arati Hazarika, Maushumi Patowari, Nivarani Chaudhury Das, Chenehi Mahanta and Animals Debroy read out self-composed poems while Jaya Bhattacharya and Giri Das presented a Rabindra Sangeet and modern song respectively.

Besides the chief guest and guests of honour, the meeting was also addressed by Dhiren Deka, former president of Assam Science Writers' Association, Deben Deka, secretary of DSXX, and poet and short story writer Dipti Thakur Goswami.
