RCC Bridge A Distant Dream for 1000 Families in Talap Gaon of Tinsukia

TINSUKIA: Though the BJP-led State government had committed to replace 1172 deplorable wooden bridges with RCC ones, for more than 1000 families of 6 No Ward in Talap Gaon Panchayat under Tinsukia district’s Sadiya Assembly Constituency, the same continues to be a distant dream.

The century-old wooden bridge constructed by the British connects Talap Tea Estate with several villages including Chegeli line and Dangori line over a rivulet of Dangori River. The 50-metre long bridge popularly known as Dhubighat Bridge is presently in a deplorable state with most of its iron pipes eroded and planks battered. According to the local people, the sick patients are usually lifted in chang (bamboo stretcher) before shifting to an ambulance on another side of the bridge.

The aggrieved people while lambasting the local MLA Bolin Chetia and Lakhimpur MP said that these political leaders visit only during election time and seek votes and never hesitate to make false promises. Now they have threatened to boycott panchayat election if their demand for RCC bridge is not fulfilled before the election.
