Resentment over alleged anomalies in fund usage of Lepetkata Tea Estate

A Correspondent

Dibrugarh: The people of Lepetkata Tea Estate expressed strong displeasure over the alleged anomaly exercised by the authorities concerned of the Lepetkata Tea Estate and departmental engineer with respect to utilization of funds of a government scheme.

In a recent memorandum submitted to Deputy Commissioner Pallav Gopal Jha, it was stated despite the allocation of Rs 1 crore by the Assam Government to each tea garden of the State for turning the roads of the labour line concrete, the amount was diverted by the said groups for improving the condition of another road in the tea garden which would instead facilitate easy movement of the company’s vehicles. It was mentioned that the fund was assigned for bettering the roads of the labour line as the slightest of rainfall was throwing such roads out of gear.

The people alleged that the departmental engineer had initially surveyed the roads of the labour line and also taken measurements but mysteriously left that plan in a limbo. Accusing the authority and departmental engineer to have some kind of a tacit understanding, the representatives of the tea garden labourers have demanded that the ongoing construction of the road be stopped by the DC, and instead measures be taken to execute the original plan. They also appealed to minister Himanta Biswa Sarma and Lahoal MLA Rituparna Baruah to intervene in the matter and take adequate measures.
