Resentment Over Sudden Transfer of Railway Staff

TINSUKIA: The sudden transfer of a large number of mechanical staff from Mariani to Dibrugarh within the Tinsukia Division of NFR on the eve of introduction of new train on Bogibeel route has created strong resentment among the Railway employees and they have demanded immediate withdrawal of the order even as 1,591 posts are lying vacant in the Division.

In a press release, Pulak Gogoi, organizational and press secretary of NFRMU, stated that 31 staff had been transferred in the interest of administration without consulting the union and such act would uproot the present domestic set-up of their families and was likely to cause irreparable harm to the education of their children. Gogoi further stated that at a time when there was dearth of Railway employees within the division, running additional trains from the division would create further chaos. Till August 2018, out of total of 7,572 posts in Tinsukia Division, as many as 1,591 were lying vacant. The union demanded immediate filling up of vacant posts.

Meanwhile, Mariani branch of NFRMU observed an hour protest against the order on Monday and the protest will continue indefinitely, stated the release.
