Retired school teacher passes away in Dibrugarh

DIBRUGARH: Retired school teacher, former president of All Assam Progotisheel Naari Xantha, a prolific progressive columnist, a dedicated social activist, Anju Borkotoky passed away on Sunday at a local nursing home due to prolonged illness. She was 62. Borkotoky is survived by a son Pragyan Kalita and a daughter, Ashmita Kalita beside her husband Lakhyadhar Kalita. Borkotoky who got her graduation from DHS Kanoi College in 1978 with distinction in English and later did her post graduation in English from Dibrugarh University. Her teaching career started when she joined Rajgarh Higher Secondary School as an English teacher in 1981 and retired from her job in 2018 from Moran Higher Secondary school.

She was closely associated with a number of progressive women organization like Dibrugarh Sivsagar District Naari Xantha Secretary, North East Chapter of All India Progotisheel Naari Xantha , Member of State Women Commission and founder president Jana Sangskritik Samaj. An active party member Communist Party Of India (M.-L), Borkotoky donated her body by signing an agreement with the Ellora Science Manch. Her death was widely condoled by several organizations including Dibrugarh unit of Asom Xahity Xabha, Dibrugarh Chapter Asom Gana Natya Sangha, Greater Dibrugarh Press Club Communist Party of India (M-L) Manab Kalyan Seva Xantha, Progotisheel Naari Xantha, Jana Sangskritic Samaj and Communist Party of India.
