KALAIGAON: As a major part of the State continues to reel under flood water, the River Noa under Kalaigaon Revenue Circle in Udalguri district has overflown due to incessant rains. Several villages were flooded on Sunday evening.

In Kalaigaon area, Noa River has overflowed due to heavy rainfall for the past few days resulting in flash floods. The flood-affected villages are Rupatal, Bhehguri, Balipara, Hapabari, Gerua, Sagunbahi, No.2 Amguri, Govindapur, Garubandha, Udmari, Kaduchak, Naptipara,Habibhanga, Borkoala, Bahjani, Majarchuba and Chintagaon. Water entered several houses and about 100 families have not been able to cook their meals for the past two days. Moreover, the embankment along River Noa has given way under the mounting pressure of flood water and it was breached at Bhehguri on Sunday at around 8.30 pm.

Moreover, the Mangaldai-Bhutiachang road near Bahjani is reeling under knee-deep water on Monday and a portion of the road has been washed away. Consequently, the district administration of Udalguri and Darrang directed not to ply any vehicles on the road. So, the vital communication link to the state headquarter from Kalaigain has been cut-off totally from Monday.

The major part of Kalaigaon town was also under knee-deep water, along with the Veterinary State Dispensary of Kalaigaon, on Monday. According to report, the embankment of River Noa was also breached at Geruwa due to heavy flood. Meanwhile, Deputy Commissioner of Darrang visited the affected area and he has asked the Water Resources department officials to visit the affected areas in order to take necessary measures.
