KALAIGAON: The River Noa under Kalaigaon Revenue Circle in Udalguri district has overflown due to incessant rain and several villages were flooded on Monday.

In Kalaigaon area, Noa River has overflown due to heavy rainfall since the past few days resulting in flash floods. The flood-affected villages are Rupatal, Bhehguri, Balipara, Hapabari, Gerua, No.2 Amguri, Habibhanga, No.2 Kalaigaon and Sagunbahi. Villagers of these areas said that they demanded immediate repair of the old embankment of Noa River which had been ravaged by floods. The embankment along with the river has given way under the mounting pressure of flood water and it may be damaged anytime. Moreover, water has entered several houses and about 50 families have not been able to cook their meals.

Thousands of bighas of crops were destroyed. Knee-deep water was also seen on the main road, namely Mekenzi at Bhehguri. Dilip Kr. Das, Deputy Commissioner of Udalguri, was informed by flood-affected people about the situation and he asked the water resource officials to visit the areas to take measures. But people alleged that no authority visited the spot and no steps had been taken for repair of this embankment.

Moreover, Maheswar Baro, MLA of Kalaigaon LAC, and BTC Speaker Tridip Daimary visited the areas and assured the people that they would try to solve the problem permanently. They also ask the authority concerned to take immediate measures in the flood-affected areas.
