Saraswati Puja celebrated with religious fervour

SARUPATHAR: The Hindu community celebrated Saraswati Puja in Sarupathar on Sunday with enthusiasm and religious fervour. Traditionally, children are introduced to education and learning on the day of Saraswati Puja. This ritual is called hatekhori. Toddlers are usually given a slate and chalk to scribble with. The major Hindu temples, Sarupathar College, Dayananda Vidya Niketan of Sarupathar and other educational institutions celebrated the festival with traditional gaiety and religious fervour. Students in particular sought blessings of Goddess Saraswati in their pursuit of knowledge, art, music and culture.

Some prominent people of Sarupathar said, “Saraswati Puja is now not limited to only the Hindus, rather members of other religious communities also celebrate it.” In most temples, houses and educational institutions, the puja began between 8 am and 10 am and it has followed by offering of anjali. The children were imparted hatekhori and later prasad (foodstuff devoted to the Goddess) were distributed among the devotees.

DEMOW: Saraswati Puja was celebrated in Demow and its surrounding areas on Sunday. Devotees invoked divine blessings for improving learning skills. Students prayed to Goddess Saraswati and later young boys and girls came out on the streets to celebrate Saraswati Puja. The students went to their respective educational institutions wearing colourful dresses. After the anjali, prasad was distributed among the students.

Haflong: Saraswati Puja was celebrated with festive fervour and gaiety throughout the district of Dima Hasao. Educational institutions and other learning institutes observed the puja with religious rituals in their campuses. Students turned up in large numbers to seek the blessings of the goddess. This was followed by the partaking of prasad and khichdi. The festive spirit was evident since morning with young girls dressed in their dazzling best thronging the puja venues. At Haflong, major educational institutions such as Haflong Government College, Government Boys’ HS School and Government Girls’ HS School drew huge crowds. The festivities started early in the morning followed by chanting of various mantras. At Langting, Saraswati Puja was celebrated with great enthusiasm. Students, particularly young girls, turned up in good number wearing saris and traditional dresses.

TANGLA: Saraswati Puja was celebrated with much enthusiasm, festivity and religious fervour in Tangla town, the educational hub of Udalguri district.

All the schools, colleges and education institutions celebrated Saraswati Puja with great pomp and gaiety on Sunday. From the morning, students donning traditional outfits gathered at the respective institutions and celebrated the puja. Small pandals were also put up in some areas where the people paid obeisance to the goddess of learning. Tangla College also celebrated Saraswati Puja with great enthusiasm. The students of the college wearing traditional dresses sought blessing of Goddess Saraswati during the puja. Saraswati idols, brought in the school and college campuses the previous evening, were worshipped in the morning hours followed by distribution of prasad. Educational institutions were teeming with students in particular, seeking blessings of Goddess Saraswati in pursuit of knowledge, art, music and culture.
