Second edition of noted poet Dr Ranjit Dutta’s novel released

Dibrugarh: The second edition of novel Keijonman Bandhu, dutiman Galpa Aru Ekhon Upanyas, written by Dr Ranjit Dutta, former General Manager, Coal India Limited, noted poet and lyricist, was released at the annual function of Gurukul Sangeet Nritya Kala Kendra held at the District Library Auditorium on Saturday. The book was jointly released by Dr Biren Borthakur, retired professor, Dibrugarh University and Nabajyoti Dutta, Head of the Department of Assamese, DHSK Commerce College, Dibrugarh.

Releasing the book, Dr Borthakur praised Dr Dutta’s effort to contribute towards Assamese literature. On the other hand, Nabajyoti Dutta in his speech hoped that based on colourful as well as vivid experiences throughout his life, Dr. Dutta would have been able to enrich the literary arena of the Assamese language along with some trans creation activities to establish Assamese literature in the global arena.

The first edition of the novel was published way back in 1996. Better known as a poet, the novelist has already penned three collections of poetry, one collection of lyrics, one mixed collection of poetry and lyrics as well as three novels. Senior journalist Ikbal Ahmed, educationist and noted social worker Kalpana Khound, AJYP leader Udayan Gogoi and many other distinguished personalities also graced the function and hailed the literary talent of Dr Dutta in their speeches.

Gurukul Sangeet Nritya Kala Kendra of Dibrugarh has carved a niche in the cultural arena of upper Assam since its inception 30 years back under the able guidance and patronage of Guru Mukul Ahmed, an exponent of Bharatnatyam and other forms of Indian classical dance.

During the function, the students of Gurukul enthralled the auditorium-packed audience by presenting a number of Indian classical dances. Gurukal Kala Kendra also awarded Dr Ranjit Dutta and two other noted personalities —well-known classical dancer and Bharatnatyam proponent of Guwahati, Pranamika Das Gogoi, and noted teacher Al Hajjin Mofida Begum with the Lifetime Achievement Award, in memory of Mukul Ahmed’s mother, Sahera Sultana, for their outstanding contribution to their respective fields and society.
