The Percy Evans Memorial Lecture series is organized annually in honour of Late Percy Evans, a British Geologist who laid the foundation of the petroleum industry in India. As a geologist of the erstwhile Burmah Oil Company, he played an indispensable role in carrying out the first geological survey of Northeast India and ultimately in the discovery of the important oil fields in the Upper Assam Basin. Several technologies of those times like the gravity exploration survey was introduced in Assam under his assistance. He further went on to introduce more modern methodologies of survey and went on to write a breakthrough research paper on ‘Geological Factors in Gravity Interpretation Illustrated by Evidence from India and Burmah’, which was appreciated even by the Geological Society of London. He is considered to be one of the pioneering geoscientists of India and had also won many accolades including the Fellowship of National Academy of Science and was honoured with the role of the president of the Geological Section of the Indian Science Congress in 1932.

An exhibition on the Earth and its features through geological ages was displayed in the form of fossils, posters and audio/visual aids. The important geological tools and sub-surface samples were also displayed which garnered a lot of interest and attention.
