Seized drugs destroyed in Karbi Anglong district

HOWRAGHAT: On the International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking, the District Drugs Disposal Committee, Karbi Anglong, an empowered statutory body, and district police destroyed large quantities of seized drugs and other narcotic substances on Saturday.

The drugs were put to fire at the Sports Authority of India Complex. Superintendent of Police of Karbi Anglong, Pushpraj Singh, Deputy Superintendent of Police, Nahid Karishma and other highly placed police officials oversaw the procedure of destruction. According to authority, the value of the drugs that was destroyed will be around Rs 11 crore.

The destroyed narcotic substances included 9 kg heroin, 1056.2 kg cannabis, 2813 kg opium, 96 bottles of cough syrup and 7,582 banned stimulating tablets. The drugs were seized in the Karbi Anglong district during the past few months.
